Opposites Attract
Dance like no one is watching. With over 200 dancers and two sell out shows, the DanCenter’s Opposites Attract was a great showcase for the multiple talents that thrive behind the walls of the DanCenter. Dancers ranged in age from 4 to over 50 and, although they varied in ability, there was passion and drive behind every single performance. The choreography was tight, inventive and the pieces were both visually and emotionally striking.
There was an eclectic mix of styles from belly dance to ballet and from hip hop to Capoeira; an afro Brazilian form of music, dance and martial arts. Wonderfully creative and colourful costumes brought the onstage characters alive and great musical choices had everyone wishing they could join in the dance. Principal and co-founder Linh Rateau is the daughter of a dance teacher and a teacher herself for over ten years. She took to dance in a big way from a very early age and opening DanCenter, in July 2007, was a “childhood dream come true”.
As its 2nd birthday approaches, with over 350 students, DanCenter is now the premier dance centre in Vietnam.
