Vincent Fantauzzo
Art Star Comes to VietnamShadowy, open-ended and mysterious, Vincent Fantauzzo’s paintings evoke all kinds of associations: Edward Hopper, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, film noir, family snapshots. Some images suggest quiet despair, others menace and barely contained violence; many seem like a single film still or a lyric snatched from a Nick Cave song.
The young Melbourne-based artist became an art world sensation when his haunting triple-image portrait of friend Heath Ledger appeared in the prestigious 2008 Archibald Prize exhibition shortly after the actor’s untimely death.
Now, twenty-six of his Fantauzzo’s paintings are going on an Asian art tour, with Vietnam as its first stop. The exhibition runs from 27 August through 6 September at Y Ngoc – Si Hoang Gallery (135 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street.) Limited-edition prints of the Ledger portraits are available at $3,000 each. Other original works are for sale as well, with prices starting at $6,900.
